Material Trader gives surplus and second-life materials for the vehicle wrapping, signage, window tinting and paint protection film trades - and the hardware and equipment to apply them - a second life. Second life never means second rate: this policy is how we keep the stock on the platform honest, so buyers always know exactly what they are getting.

What every seller confirms

Before a material listing can be published, the seller must confirm that the material has been dry stored: kept indoors, dry and out of direct sunlight, in line with the manufacturer's storage guidance. Material that has not been stored this way cannot be listed on Material Trader. This is the one condition we do not bend on - correctly stored film keeps its performance; damp or sun-baked film does not.

Sellers of single rolls also declare the year of manufacture (usually printed on the original box label or roll core sticker) and may add the manufacturer's batch or lot code. The batch code, together with a photo of the label, helps verify a roll's age - some manufacturers, such as Inozetek, can cross-reference a batch number to its production date.

Manufacturer shelf-life guidance

Rather than inventing our own age limit, we judge every material listing against its own manufacturer's published shelf-life guidance. The figures below come from the manufacturers' own product bulletins, technical data sheets and storage guidelines. Where a manufacturer publishes no figure, or a brand is not listed here, typical industry guidance of 2 years applies.

Figures are the manufacturers' own recommendations at the date above and may be revised by them at any time; the manufacturer's current bulletin always takes precedence. Different product lines from the same manufacturer can carry different figures.

Aged stock: a second chance, honestly labelled

Material beyond its manufacturer's shelf-life guidance - or of unknown age - can still be listed. Most of it still has plenty of use, and putting it to work is exactly the waste prevention Material Trader exists for. But it must be listed honestly: every such listing carries a clear "Aged stock" notice on the browse tile and the listing page, the seller confirms the disclosure before publishing, and the price is expected to reflect the added risk. Aged stock is never hidden and never a checkout surprise.

Hardware and equipment

Plotters, laminators, heat guns, application tools and other hardware do not age the way film does, so no shelf-life rule applies. Hardware listings are governed by their declared condition and description, which must be accurate and complete.

Enforcement

A false storage or age declaration is a breach of this policy and of our Terms. If you believe a listing misdescribes its age or storage, report it from the listing page using "Age or storage conditions misdescribed" - reports go straight to moderation. Misdescribed listings are removed, repeat misdescription can lead to account suspension, and a buyer who receives material that does not match its declared age or storage is covered by Buyer Protection and our dispute process, where the declaration counts as part of the listing description.

What this policy is not

The declarations above are made by sellers, and the shelf-life figures are the manufacturers' own guidance. Material Trader surfaces both and enforces honest labelling, but does not inspect stock and does not warrant the performance, application or fitness for purpose of any material. Unapplied film should always be test-applied before committing to a job - aged or not.
