Copyright Policy

Last updated: 9 July 2026

Material Trader ("we", "us", "our") respects the intellectual property of others, and we ask every user of our marketplace to do the same. This policy explains what we expect from users when they post content, and how rights holders can notify us of content they believe infringes copyright they own or represent. It forms part of, and should be read alongside, our Terms & Conditions.

1. Your responsibilities when posting content

Everything you post to Material Trader - listing photographs, descriptions, your profile, and messages - must be your own work or content you have the right to use. In particular:

  • Listing photographs should be your own images of the actual item being sold. Do not copy photographs from manufacturers' websites, other marketplaces or other sellers' listings unless you have the rights holder's permission.
  • Descriptions must not be copied from another website or seller without permission.
  • Brand and product names (for example a film manufacturer's name) may be used factually to describe genuine goods. They must not be used in a way that suggests endorsement, or to describe counterfeit or imitation goods, which are prohibited under clause 4 of our Terms.

You are responsible for the content you post. By posting it, you confirm that it does not infringe the copyright, trade marks or other intellectual property rights of any third party.

2. Reporting copyright infringement

If you believe that content on Material Trader infringes copyright that you own or are authorised to act for, you may send a written notification to our designated copyright agent:

Copyright Agent, Material Trader
Email: hello@materialtrader.co (subject line: "Copyright notice")

To help us act quickly, your notification should include:

  • identification of the copyright work you believe has been infringed (or a representative list if there are several);
  • the location of the material you believe is infringing - ideally the full web address (URL) of the listing, image or other content, or enough detail for us to find it;
  • your name, postal address, email address and, where possible, a telephone number;
  • a statement that you believe, in good faith, that the use of the material is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law;
  • a statement that the information in your notification is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or are authorised to act on the owner's behalf; and
  • your physical or electronic signature.

Signed-in users can also flag a listing quickly using the Report option on the listing itself. A formal written notification as set out above remains the most effective route for rights holders.

3. What we do when we receive a notification

We review notifications promptly. Where a notification gives us actual knowledge of unlawful content, or we otherwise consider the complaint to be well founded, we will act expeditiously to remove or disable access to the material in question. We will normally tell the user who posted the content why it was removed, and we keep a record of notifications and the action taken.

4. If your content is removed

If content you posted is removed following a copyright notification and you believe the removal was a mistake - for example, you own the content, you are licensed to use it, or you believe the complaint misidentifies the material - you may contact us at the same address with an explanation and any supporting evidence. We will review your response, may share it with the complainant, and may restore the content where we are satisfied it does not infringe.

5. Repeat infringers

We may suspend or terminate the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe, or are repeatedly alleged to infringe, the intellectual property rights of others, in line with the account-suspension provisions of our Terms.

6. False or bad-faith notifications

Submitting a false, misleading or bad-faith notification can have legal consequences, and may lead to us disregarding future notifications from the same source. Please only submit a notification if you genuinely believe your rights (or the rights of a party you represent) have been infringed.

7. Our content

The Material Trader name, logo, website design and our own text, graphics and software are protected by intellectual property rights and may not be copied or reused without our written permission. You must not copy, modify, adapt, translate, reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble any portion of the service, except to the extent that applicable law expressly prohibits this restriction. Users keep the rights in the content they post, subject to the licence they grant us in our Terms to display that content on the marketplace.

8. Governing law and changes

This policy is governed by the law of England and Wales. We may update it from time to time - the date at the top shows when it last changed. Questions about this policy can be sent to hello@materialtrader.co.
